The Versova police have arrested actor Piyush Sahdev, 35, a prominent face in several leading TV shows, for allegedly raping a 23-year-old woman. Senior inspector Kiran Kale confirmed the arrest and said, "He is in police custody." Sources said the Versova police received a complaint on November 20 from the woman, who alleged that Sahdev was in a relationship with her for the last two months, during which he raped her after gaining her trust and promising to help her to shape her career in the fashion and TV industry.

Her complaint states, "Sahdev approached me during an event a few months ago and we became friends; it later turned into a relationship and we even stayed together for two months, before I learnt about his past affairs." The complainant added that he broke up with her and stopped attending her calls after she checked his cellphone and allegedly found pictures of several girls in it.
The police said the actor was arrested on November 22 and produced the next day before the Andheri Metropolitan Magistrate Court, which sent him to police custody till November 27. An officer said, "Following the victim's complaint, the accused was booked under section 376 (1) of the IPC."

Piyush Sahdev is best known for his roles Devon Ke Dev Mahadev, Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke and Beyhadh. He made his TV debut with Meet Mila De Rabba and has been part of Ghar Ek Sapnaa, Geet, Mann Kee Awaaz Pratigya and Hum Ne Li Hai- Shapath.
