President’s rule was imposed after the Arjun Munda government collapsed after the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) withdrew support last month.

The union Cabinet gave its nod for imposing president’s rule in the state on Thursday. The Cabinet discussed the report of Jharkhand Governor Syed Ahmed who has suggested imposition of President’s Rule while keeping the 82-member state Assembly in suspended animation.

The present political instability erupted on January 8 when BJP’s ruling coalition partner JMM, in a letter to the governor, formally withdrew its support to the 28-month-old government pushing it into a minority. Munda had resigned the next day and sought dissolution of the state Assembly.u00a0
