San Francisco: The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) was victim of a ransomware attack that disrupted some its internal computer systems including email.

However, the public transportation authority said the transit service was unaffected and there were no impacts to the safe operation of buses and subway trains.

Neither customer privacy nor transaction information were compromised, Xinhua news reported on Tuesday.

This is an ongoing attack that started on November 25, targeting the SFMTA from which the hacker has demanded 100 Bitcoin, equivalent to about $73,000.
