Cops reveal Prakash Bagam aka Pakya, a childhood friend of the gangster, was providing information and details of builders, who were then extorted by Pujari


The Anti-Extortion Cell of the Thane police arrested a hardened criminal and close associate of gangster Ravi Pujari yesterday.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) P G Kendre said that the accused was identified as Prakash Shankar Bagam aka Pakya. Cops added that the 47-year-old resident of the city was a childhood friend of gangster Ravi Pujari.

According to officials, Pakya was providing information and contact numbers of builders and jewellers in Thane to the criminal. Recently, he had provided information about builder Prakash Mutha, who Pujari had tried to extort Rs 50 lakh from.

Pakya was arrested in 1994 for the murder of Shiv Sena MLA Ramesh More. However, he jumped bail and went absconding ever since. Cops added that there were more than a dozen criminal cases registered against Pakya including murder, attempt to murder and extortion.

Authorities produced the history-sheeter in court which remanded him to custody till December 29.
