A 23-year-old man stabbed his wife to death in Pune on Tuesday, suspecting her of having an extra marital affair. He later tried to misguide the police by telling him that it was a case of robbery.

The deceased has been identified as Pooja Swapnil Bhardwaj (22), a resident of Dhayari. She had tied the knot with the accused six months back. A case of murder was registered with the Sinhagad police station, which falls under the jurisdiction of Pune city police, after which the deceased was arrested.

Baban Khodge, Inspector (crime) of Sinhagad police station, who is investigating the case said, “The victim held a degree in Hotel Management while the accused runs his own construction business, and is also a farmer by profession. The incident took place on Tuesday around 6 pm.”

“It seems both had a fight on Monday night and, on Tuesday evening, another heated argument took place. The accused suspected that Pooja was having an extra martial affair. He stabbed her on hand and leg with a pointed knife, and then slit her throat. Later, to divert our attention, he cooked up a robbery angle, and alerted us. On being grilled though he spilled the beans,” Khodge added.
