Pune crime: Man held for dumping friend's body after accident

Nigdi police arrested Ashok Narayan Shinde (45) on charges of destroying evidence after his companion Vinayak Shankarrao Navale (45), both from Jalna, was killed in an accident involving an unidentified car driver near Shirur on Pune-Nagar Road on March 3.

Shinde had thrown the Navale’s body near Chikhali and did not inform police about the accident.

Besides Shinde, the car driver who knocked down Navale, has also been charged under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act and Indian Penal Code. Navale’s wife Ashabai (40) has lodged a complaint in this regard.

A case of accidental death was registered initially in this case. After investigations, it was revealed that Navale and Shinde were travelling together from Jalna to Pune on March 3.

They had stopped near Shirur around 11pm, when Navale tried to cross the road and got knocked down by a speeding car. After the accident, Shinde brought Navale to Chikhali and threw his body on the road.

Shinde then also washed the bloodstains inside his car and did not contact the police. Sub-inspector NS Pawar is investigating the case.
