Pune Crime: Youth stabs his mother to death

Enraged by her affair with an unknown person, a 25-year-old youth stabbed his mother to death on Wednesday. The incident occurred at 10.30 pm at Bhondve Vasti in Ravet, where Rohit Chandane attacked his mother, Madhuri Chandane (40) with a sharp weapon.

Madhuri was taken to a nearby hospital, but she was declared dead on arrival, while Rohit went to his friend’s house and narrated the incident. His friends immediately took him to the police station, where he confessed to the crime.

According to the police, Madhuri got divorced from her first husband – Rohit’s father – in 2000, and remarried in 2004. After a while, though, she and her second husband decided to separate with mutual understanding.

It was after this, while Rohit and his mother were living together, that he noticed drastic changes in her behaviour and suspected that she was having an affair.

C A Sangale, senior police inspector of Chinchwad police station, said, “According to Rohit, his mother was behaving differently. She would have late night phone conversations, and used to go out late to meet someone.”

“Rohit was closely monitoring his mother’s activity for the past 18 months. He spoke to her, and tried to tell her not to get involved with anyone. When this did not have an impact on Madhuri, Rohit stabbed her with a sharp weapon,” Sangale added.
