Pune horror: Stray kite claims 45-year-old woman's life
Stray, illegal nylon kite strings have claimed another life, that of Pune resident Suvarna Majumdar, 45
Stray, illegal nylon kite strings have claimed another life, that of Pune resident Suvarna Majumdar, 45. Majumdar, a marketing and advertising executive for Sakal newspaper, was on her way back home on her scooter around 6 pm on Wednesday.
"Along the way, she noticed something itching her neck. Behind her, a colleague saw her fidgeting with the string and while she was scratching it, he noticed that her neck had been slit. Before they knew it, she was unconscious, lying in a pool of blood," said Majumdar's colleague.
"He alerted the office and rushed her to Surya hospital. Later, she was rushed to Poona hospital, where she was operated upon for her injuries. She had lost a lot of blood and around eight bottles had to be given to her," the colleague added.
Prabhakar Shinde, senior inspector of Shivaji Nagar police station said, "Majumdar had suffered around three-inch deep injuries on her neck and lost a lot of blood. She was operated upon as the nerves near her neck were damaged. The blood stopped reaching her head, and she was declared brain dead late Saturday night."
"The string that caused her death has been banned as per the directions of the Supreme Court. We have reported the offence under sections 304 and 304 (A) of the Indian Penal Code. We are probing the case based on CCTV footage and have called some children for questioning. We will also visit shops selling these strings and register a case against them too," Shinde added.
