Pune: Incarcerated Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt was left in tears after he had an unusual visitor in Yerawada Central Jail on Thursday -- yoga guru Ramdev, jail sources said.

Ramdev met the star during his visit to the jail to teach the inmates yoga.

Thursday saw as many as 500 convicted and under-trial inmates along with prison officers and staffers doing asanas under the watchful eyes of the yoga guru from around 3 pm to 6 pm.

After the yoga session on the sprawling campus, the yoga guru and the actor had a brief tete-a-tete in the solitary area. Dutt is currently serving his five-year prison term following his conviction in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case. In fact, the two are not strangers to each other and had met at a private Ganeshotsav function in Mumbai in September last year when the actor was out on a month's parole.

Confirming the meeting, Ramdev said, “I met Sanjay for five minutes and he claimed that he is practicing yoga daily in prison. Sanjay is a good human being and we have good relationship from past. He is just any of the other prisionersand serving is his term and there is no special treatment given to him at all. I blessed him and also pray to god that he released soon.”

Sources in prison said, “(Sanjay) Dutt was asked to perform yoga in his cell as his security was an issue. Since a number of notorious goons had come to do yoga we did not want to take any risk. Sanjay practises yoga daily. Ramdev adviced him to do suryanamaskar and other breathing exercises along with kapalbarati. And even demonstrated some breathing exercises for him. He (Sanjay Dutt) was in tears the moment he saw Ramdev since he was meeting some known after a long time.”

Dutt is expected to be released from jail on February 25. The actor has served more than 50 months out of the sentence of 60 months that was announced by the government. A regular remission was granted to Sanjay Dutt by the authorities on account of good conduct.

Dutt was sentenced to five-year imprisonment after he was convicted for possessing an illegal weapon, part of the cache meant to be used during the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts in which 257 people were killed. The 56-year-old actor was jailed in 1996 and spent 18 months behind bars before walking out on bail. In 2013, the Supreme Court sentenced him to five years in prison for the crime. Dutt is now completing the remaining prison term of 42 months. After he was sent to Yerwada jail in May 2013, Dutt had been out on parole twice and an equal number of times on furlough.
