There's good news for those who enjoyed Daler Mehndi's Na Re or Sukhbir's Ishq Tadpave. Leading artistes are giving a new spin to all-time Punjabi hits for T-Series Mixtape Punjabi, a 13-episode musical show that will premiere on YouTube next month.

Besides Mehndi and Sukhbir, the line-up includes Hans Raj Hans, Harbhajan Maan, Sukhwinder Singh, Mika Singh, Guru Randhawa and Gippy Grewal, among others. Sukhbir says it'll be interesting to work with other musicians. "The creative platform unites artistes from all genres and that's a novel concept."

Excited about his solo act, Mehndi says that the show helps keep his work relevant in an ever-changing world of music. "From the lyrics to the composition of songs - music has changed quite a bit in the last two decades. The idea is to bring old hits in an all-new avatar."

It is no mean feat to reinterpret songs that have ruled the audience's hearts, but composer Abhijit Vaghani has lent them a modern feel by using instruments like the mandolin, bagalbacha, chimta, bugchu and shehnai. Sukhwinder, who will share the stage with Kanika Kapoor, says, "Abhijit has used a lot of organic sounds, and experimented with the tropical house and synth lines. We'll be singing Marjaani and Lovely for our episode."
