A financial consultant allegedly verbally abused a 32-year-old woman in his building and threatened to rape her, when she refused to clean up after her dog, which had littered their building premises.

The dog-owner, who is a tenant on the sixth floor of Harbour Heights, N A Sawant Marg, Colaba, has been staying alone in her apartment since November last year. On Saturday afternoon, she took the French Bulldog for a walk inside the building premises. The dog then defecated within the premises.

“One of the other residents stopped his car and asked the woman to clean up after her dog. She retaliated that she would do so only if the society has a rule in place saying that owners should pick up their dog’s droppings. According to her statement, this response made the man very angry,” said an officer from Colaba police station.

In her statement to the police, the woman alleged that the accused then started using obscene language, saying, “A woman like you should not be allowed to live in this society and I will personally have you thrown out. I will kill you and both your dogs. I will take you to my house and rape you.”

Afraid of an impending assault, the woman approached the police, accompanied by the security guard, Chaudhari. The guard identified the accused as Kamlesh Hakumatrai Thakur, a resident on the seventh floor, who is also the director of a financial consultancy in Fort.

“We have booked Thakur under Section 509 of the IPC for word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman. He has also been booked under Section 506 for criminal intimidation. He was arrested and produced before a magistrate the court, which granted him bail of Rs 15,000,” said the officer from Colaba police station.u00a0
