For example, if a train is to depart from the station on the second of the month, the Tatkal quota for that particular train shall open at 0800 hours on the first of the month. This has been implemented with effect from yesterday.

A maximum of four passengers can book tickets on Tatkal. The new rules also clamp down on agents and touts, as agents/RTSAs (Rail Travel Service Agents) will not be allowed to book Tatkal tickets at the counters between 8 am and 10 am.

No refund will be granted on cancellation of confirmed Tatkal tickets that are booked on or beyond November 21, except in cases of contingency circumstances. The existing rule of providing 25 per cent refund for confirmed tickets that are cancelled 24 hours before the departure of the train is applicable only for Tatkal tickets booked before November 21. Similarly, refund will not be applicable on duplicate Tatkal tickets that are booked on or beyond November 21, 2011.
