The Congress may field actor Raj Babbar or Bhojpuri superstar Ravi Kishen from North Mumbai, which has star

politician Govinda as its incumbent Lok Sabha MP.u00a0 When MiD DAY asked Kripashankar Singh, president, Mumbai Regional Congress Committee, if Govinda is on his way out, he was non-committal. "Anyone can get the ticket. I am, however, planning to forward the message of Raj Babbar's supporters to New Delhi."

"If talks to form an SP-Congress alliance bear fruit, it is unlikely that the Congress will want to upset its alliance partner by giving the Fatehpur Sikri ticket to Raj Babbar," a senior SP leader from Mumbai told this correspondent.

And Ravi Kishen told this reporter that two political parties had approached him. One of the parties with a base in Uttar Pradesh wants him to contest from Jaunpur. The other party wants him to contest from North Mumbai. "I am yet to decide. I have signed some good films with noted directors.

I want to focus on my movies," said Kishen. Because the North Mumbai constituency has a major North Indian voter population, political parties want to field candidates who have the north connection.

Anurag Chaturvedi, political analyst, said, "Govinda's unpopularity has worked against him. The Congress knows the demographics. They will field a candidate who can win the seat for them. They may field Raj Babbar." Govinda could not be contacted despite repeated attempts.

North Mumbai's North Indian edge
North Mumbai has been resized, so it will include areas between Malad and Dahisar. Ram Naik, former MP of the constituency and the likely BJP candidate, said, "Fielding any candidate against us won't hamper our chances. People will vote for the BJP, because they need change."
