Forty-one time champions Mumbai face Tripura in a must-win Ranji Trophy Group 'C' game today in order to make a quarter-final entry possible at the Wankhede Stadium, today. Though the visitors have only four points from five games and are at the bottom in the group, Mumbai skipper Aditya Tare is concerned about the performances from his senior players. The wicketkeeper batsman wants the seniors to shoulder bigger responsibilities in this crucial match.

Siddhesh Lad, who came up with three consecutive match-saving knocks against Andhra, Baroda and Odisha, is the top run-scorer for the hosts with 490 at an average of 61.25. Teen sensation Prithvi Shaw, who scored 470 in four matches with the help of three centuries, enjoys an average of 58.75, while Shreyas Iyer managed to score 320 at an average of 53.33. However, senior batsman and vice-captain Suryakumar Yadav and opener Akhil Herwadkar have an average of 34.22 and 33.20 respectively, while Tare himself has a poor average of 23.71.
"It's high time senior players in the team step up. That is how you win matches, win Ranji Trophy," said Tare after team's practice session yesterday.
The Mumbai skipper felt his team played pretty well in their three away matches, but could not get enough points from the two home games. However, he is confident of beating the lesser-known Tripura team. "Our approach will remain the same. We will try and play our brand of cricket. We will be as aggressive and positive as we can. Yes, they [Tripura] are an unknown quantity. I don't think we have ever played them, at least I have never played Tripura. So we might take more time adjusting to their players, but if we do things correctly, we will be able to achieve the result we want," said Tare.
