Ranveer Singh breaks silence on 'Padmavati', says he's been asked to stay mum!

Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh has finally broken his silence over the film 'Padmavati'. The actor who plays the role of the Mughal king, 'Allaudin Khilji', spoke at a recently held media interaction about the various controversies surrounding his film. He told ANI, "I am 200% with the film and my Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, I have been asked not to say anything, whatever official stand it is you will get it from Producers. It's a very sensitive time."

The actor had drawn flak on social media for his silence over the film and also on the threats that actress Deepika Padukone received from the fringe outfits and religious groups. Ranveer plays the role of the savage and cruel ruler, Allaudin Khilji and he had been at the receiving end of the wrath of the religious forces as well.

'Padmavati' has become the most controversial films of recent times as even the politicians have started jumping in the bandwagon to bash it and ask for a ban. Some religious outfits have threatened to burn cinema halls if they allow it to be screened, while some went ahead and placed a bounty on Deepika.

Although the 31-year-old Deepika lives in Mumbai, she hails from Bengaluru, where her family, including her father and legendary badminton champion Prakash Padukone, mother Ujjala, younger sister Anisha and grandmother Ahilya live in the city's northern suburb. Prakash Padukone runs a badminton coaching academy in the city.

Haryana Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kunwar Surajpal Singh Ammu had offered a reward of Rs 10 crore to anyone who would "behead" Deepika and director Sanjay Leela Bhansali for the film, which is based on the life of 13th century Indian queen Rani Padmini, also known as Padmavati. "We do not want to take law in our hands but will not forgive anyone who tries to spoil the image of Rajput kings and queens," said Ammu, who is also the chief media coordinator for the party in the state.

The director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Ranveer Singh have also been provided with security, as the threats don't seem to die down and more religious groups call to ban it. Deven Bharti, joint commissioner of police (Law and Order) told mid-day, "Mumbai police does not interfere with protest which is conducted in a democratic manner. Any individual or group which attempts to be adventurous, will be dealt with sternly and will face strict legal action. We assure them that we will not allow miscreants to create any problem and they can indulge in their routine activities without any fear."
