Rape comes to light after girl delivers ex-Sena district president's baby
The 15-year-old delivered Bashu Nambiyar's baby boy at a Mira Road hospital on Thursday; Nambiyar, a former Thane district president of the Shiv Sena was arrested the same day
A former Thane district president of the Shiv Sena was arrested on Thursday for allegedly raping a 15-year-old. Police said that the incident had come to light the same day, after the Std X girl delivered a baby at a local hospital in Mira Road and, on questioning, revealed the name of Bashu Nambiyar, who had allegedly raped her in January.
Promised monetary help
According to the police, Nambiyar came in contact with the accused last year, when he visited her school for a function. He met the girl, offered her financial help and stayed in touch after that. In January, Nambiyar offered to drop the survivor home and took her to an isolated spot and raped her.
“The victim came back home, but could not tell anyone about her ordeal as Nambiyar had allegedly threatened get her rusticated from the school. She also feared that all the financial help to her family would be withdrawn,” an officer from the Kashimira police station said.
Senior Inspector Anil Kadam from Kashimira police station said, “The 15-year-old delivered a baby boy in a hospital and the hospital staff informed us about the delivery, since it pertains to a minor girl. When she was questioned, she gave us the name of Nambiyar, who has been arrested,” Nambiyar has been booked for rape under various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
