After playing a young mother in Tu Hai Mera Sunday, Rasika Dugal will essay the role of a Kashmiri mother in her next, Hamid. The film focuses on Kashmir's conflict zones, and revolves around a mother-son's journey, where the eight-year-old tries to find his lost father.

A source close to the actor says that to prepare for her role, Dugal read up and watched documentaries on the life of Parveena Ahangar, also called the Iron lady of Kashmir. She is the founder of the Association of Parents of Disappeared Persons (APDP), who was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2005 for her pacifism and human rights activism.

"Rasika was influenced by Iffat Fatima's 26-minute documentary, Where Have You Hidden My New Moon Crescent. She also read petitions and news articles published on the plight of Kashmiri women, who tried to find their husbands and children in the conflict zone," says the source.

Dugal tells mid-day the research is an endeavour to connect with the audience. "The more important thing is to find a connect with the people and situations that are beyond your own realm of experience. But, I can only do my work to the best of my knowledge and hope that I have been sensitive to the people whose story we are attempting to tell," she says.
