Real Madrid and Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo faced homophobic slurs during his team’s 1-1 draw against Barcelona in a Spanish League match on Saturday.

A section of fans at Barcelona’s Nou Camp Stadium were heard chanting: “Cristiano, come out of the closet”, and also chanted “maricon” (“faggot”) at him from the stands. It is learnt that the Spanish football association could well order a league investigation in the issue. The La Liga authorities have assured a strong response to all reported instances of homophobia after Ronaldo was the target of similar abuse in the same match here last season.
Hours after the match, Sergio Ramos put up a team photograph of the Real outfit in the dressing room and Ronaldo got trolled online for what seemed like a naked pose.
During last month’s encounter with Atlético Madrid, midfielder Koke allegedly called Ronaldo a “ fa***t” bang on his face. In response, the billion dollar star is said to have responded with: “A fa***t with a lot of money.”
