Oscar-winning actress Reese Witherspoon has apologised after being arrested for disorderly conduct in Atlanta, saying she had drunk too much and was "deeply embarrassed" by her behaviour.
Witherspoon (37) was arrested on Friday after quarrelling with police who stopped her husband, talent agent James Toth, on suspicion of drunken driving.
“Do you know my name?”Witherspoon is quoted as asking the state trooper who stopped the couple. She also said, “You’re about to find out who I am” and “You’re about to be on national news,” according to the arrest report.

In a statement released yesterday, the actress said she could not comment what happened, citing legal reasons. “But I do want to say I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said,” Witherspoon said in a statement.
“It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that was no excuse. I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job. I have nothing but respect for the police and I am very sorry for my behaviour.”u00a0
