For the past several months, the accused Ramesh Yadav had been harassing Rubiya (name changed), a first year B.Com student, who resides with her parents, brother Sufian Khan (19), and a sister at Antop Hill. The minor girl claims that her tormentor was constantly forcing her to respond to his advances, but she was not interested in doing so.

Losing it: The accused Ramesh Yadav stabbed Rubiya’s brother when he and her father went to settle the matter yesterday

Rubiya said that Yadav used to follow her every day for the past several months and made obscene gestures. She also claims that he even slapped her on two occasions when she turned down his proposal. The girl finally complained to her father Shahid Khan and brother Sufian. They met Yadav to tell him to steer clear.

However, for two days after the meeting, Yadav had been calling up on Shahid’s mobile and abusing and threatening him with dire consequences if he interfered.

Having had enough, Shahid and Sufian approached Yadav yesterday morning to settle the matter, but tempers flared and the accused whipped out a knife and stabbed Sufian. Speaking to MiD DAY, Rubiya said, “He would always follow me and he even made obscene gestures towards me. When I asked him to stop all this, he even hit me twice. He threatened that if I said no, he would kill my dad and my brother.”

Locals nabbed Yadav after the attack and rushed Sufian to Sion Hospital where he was stated to be in a serious condition and required surgery.

Rubiya said, “I fear walking on the road as he always intercepts me. Even if he is arrested, I fear he will come back for revenge.”

API Dhanaji Jagdale of Wadala truck terminal police station said, “The accused was nabbed by locals. He was harassing a girl for a long time. He has been charged under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code. We are currently recording the statements of the girl and other family members, before beginning further investigation.”u00a0
