The ideal stop to grab a quick snack or a nice way to spend a leisurely afternoon after a tiring shopping spree, 212 All Day turns out to be a chic, multipurpose restaurant in mid-town Mumbai

Restaurant review: Phoenix Marketcity gets a new all-day eatery

212 All Day

212 All Day might sound like a familiar name but this bistro, now launched by Bellona Hospitality Services, is the brand new entrant at Phoenix Marketcity in Kurla. A complete contrast to the fine dine restaurant in Worli, this is more casual with a kitchen that stays open all day. The seating is a mix of cozy tables for twos and fours, comfortable booths and elevated community style tables. There is also an outdoor seating area, rarely seen in a mall setting, reminiscent of the cheerful bistros on the streets of Europe. As the sun sets, the courtyard lights up and this outdoor seating comes alive with live bands and even pop stores at times.

One look at the menu and you realise that there are no fancy, hard-to-pronounce items on the menu (that also doubles up as your tablemat!). There are thin crust pizzas, burgers and flat breads salads on the menu. The restaurant also has a well-stocked bar that boasts a selection of premium spirits, wines, beers and cocktails.

We found it interesting that while most of the food sounded familiar, the presentation and the taste had a twist to it. The Watermelon and Goat Cheese Stack (Rs 250) was a refreshing start to our afternoon. Next, the Spicy House Special Flat Bread Pizza (Rs 400) was a regular pizza with onion, capsicum, mushroom, jalapeno American corn, but the perfectly baked thin crust made all the difference.

The bistro is big on its all-day breakfast menu with a variety of eggs to choose from. You could try the healthy, Three Egg White Omelette with herbs (Rs 225). The Shroom Burger (Rs 325) made with portobello and garden mushroom sauté; with melted Gruyere cheese is a chef special, which we give big thumbs up to. The Chilly Crusted Sea Perch (Rs 495) made with fresh veggies and lemon butter sauce was fresh and promising too. You could also chose to take away a goodie bag from the inviting cheese bar and dessert displays.

“I love eggs; so the egg items you see on the menu are reflective of personal taste. The idea was to make fresh food in house. We make our own bread our own mayonnaise, in house,” explains Romil Ratra, director of 212 All Day.
