Resul Pookutty wins Golden Reel Award for 'India's Daughter'

Los Angeles: Oscar-winning sound designer Resul Pookutty has won a Golden Reel Award for the documentary film "India's Daughter".


Pookutty was nominated in two categories at Motion Picture Sound Editors' 63rd annual Golden Reel Awards for the films "Unfreedom" and "India's Daughter", both of which are banned in India.

Pookutty won the award for Best Sound & Music Editing: Television Documentary Short Form at the award ceremony, which was held at Westin Bonaventure Hotel & Suites here on Saturday.

"And we won the 63rd Golden Reel Award for 'India's Daughter'! First in Asia a Golden reel coming home to India!" Pookutty wrote on his Twitter page on Sunday.

Pookutty dedicated the award to "Nirbhaya's soul".

"Is it true that I really got it... It's for the true spirit of the youth of India. This goes to Nirbhaya's soul..!" he wrote in another Twitter post.

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" earned the award for Best Sound Editing in Feature Film: Music Score.

"The Revenant" and "Mad Max: Fury Road" were tied for Best Sound Editing: Feature English Language - FX/Foley.

The sound editing teams for the HBO fantasy series "Game of Thrones" were the single biggest winners at the awards gala, taking home trophies for Best Sound Editing: TV Short Form - Dialogue/ADR and Best Sound Editing: TV Short Form - FX/Foley, reports deadline.com.

The MPSE’s 2016 Filmmaker Award went to Sam Raimi, while three-time Oscar winner Richard King nabbed the Career Achievement Award.

King has taken home Academy Awards in sound editing for Christopher Nolan’s films "Inception" and "The Dark Knight", and on Peter Weir’s "Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World", and he’s been nominated two other times.

The Golden Reels honour the year’s best work in the various areas of sound editing: Dialogue & ADR, Effects & Foley, and Music.
