Passers-by chase and nab 38-year-old man from Kolkata after he snatched the chain of a woman opposite CST and tried to flee

A retired Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan was arrested by MRA Marg police for snatching a gold chain from a woman yesterday. The jawan was caught red-handed by two passers-by while he was trying to flee after snatching the woman’s chain at CST.

According to the police, the jawan, identified as Ashok Haripad Patra (38), was attached to the Kolkata division of the CRPF. He is a resident of New Alipore, Kolkata. Around 12.30 pm yesterday, after Patra snatched a gold chain from Mamta Rajesh Thakkar opposite CST, he tried to flee towards Azad Maidan. Thakkar shouted for help and two passers-by Jayendra Gangaram Mane and Sayyed Moin Sayyed Nair gave chase and succeeded in nabbing Patra near Azad Maidan. Later, the duo handed him over at the Azad Maidan police station.
