According to the Navghar police, the incident occurred on Sunday morning around 3 am at Navghar Junction in Mulund (East). Shrikant Ganesh Deshmukh (31) approached 23-year-old auto driver, Mohammad Sabir Mohammad Hatim Shaikh (MH 03 AU 3425), asking the driver to ply him to Malad.

Shrikant told Shaikh that he just had Rs 90 on him and would pay him the rest after reaching his residence. This, however, didn't go down well with Shaikh and the duo entered into a heated argument. Unable to control his anger, Shaikh attacked Shrikant with a sharp object.

Shrikant registered a complaint against Shaikh while he was being rushed to the hospital.
A resident of Kurar Village, Shrikant works at Mulund, while Shaikh is a resident of Sanjay Nagar in Kurla.
