A pal of gloom descended on the Yadav household the moment they learnt about the four-year ban on Narsingh Yadav. His elder brother Vinod said that it was a rude shock for the entire family and he still can’t believe that his younger brother will no longer take part in the Olympics.

“I spoke to Narsingh on Thursday night. He had come back after his weigh-in and the draw of the pool was out,” Vinod told mid-day at his flat in Laxmi Villa, Goregaon.

“He got a comparatively easy draw and he was confident of winning a medal since he had defeated all the guys in his pool on previous bouts. He was confident and I was all set to watch his bout with family and friends,” added Vinod.
Rude shock
When Vinod got a call from a media person in the morning he was sure that it was for his byte on Narsingh’s bout which was scheduled for the evening.
“But when he informed me about the ban I didn’t know how to react. I blanked out for sometime and didn’t have the guts to call Narsingh,” said Vinod holding back his tears.
Flaw in system
He also felt that the manner in which Narsingh’s case happened and the way it was dealt actually exposes the flaws of the Indian sporting system.
“How can you expect such a thing will happen to a player of such high stature and who was to represent the country in the Olympics? Narsingh had filed an FIR for the case in Haryana. But the police there didn’t take the matter seriously and the guilty were never brought to book. Had they been nabbed, things would have been different. I strongly feel that this case has exposed the flaws of the Indian sporting system,” lamented the elder brother.
