Indian shooters failed to win any medals for the first time after the conclusion of the Rio Olympics last year. But London Olympics bronze-medal shooter Gagan Narang insists the result should motivate shooters to achieve glory in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

"We did not have a successful Olympics in Rio, but the result should be used to fuel the fire for 2020 Olympics. The system needs to be strengthened and improved. As far as I know, every shooter is working hard individually keeping the 2020 Olympics in mind," Narang said yesterday while announcing the association of his Project Leap, conceived to train young shooting talent in the country, with Olympic Gold Quest.

With the Asian Games in Indonesia and Commonwealth Games in Australia to be held next year, Indian shooters have an opportunity to redeem themselves, but Narang's focus is more on the World Championships in South Korea next year as it guarantees a place in the Olympics.

"I have a busy schedule ahead with the selection trails and Asian Games on the cards, but World Championships are more important for an Olympic berth so I'll be focusing more on that," added the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna awardee.
