Rivalries can wait, it's fun and games at NSCI

Lee Chong Wei, Lin Dan and Peter Gade displayed their funny side when they entertained a packed NSCI which had almost 5000-plus spectators watching them play and cheering for them from the sidelines. The badminton greats may have passed their prime, but they still showed why they are so popular with their on-court antics. While the spectators awaited a repeat of the 2001 All England semi-finals when India's national badminton coach P Gopichand took on Danish great Peter Gade, but the only change here was they had upcoming shuttlers as their doubles partners. This time Gopichand lost 4-9, but what was refreshing to see in the lost cause was how he encouraged the young girl playing with him.

Meanwhile, Lin Dan was seen blowing the shuttle as he played alongside PV Sindhu, while Saina Nehwal partnered Lee Chong Wei who entertained the crowd with his swift game. The rivalry between Lin Dan and Lee Chong is famous, but for a change they played as partners against Saina Nehwal and Sindhu which they won 5-4. And when Lee Chong tried to play his trademark smash, the point was awarded to the Indian duo as they were not allowed to hit 'too hard'. Srikanth teamed up with Lee Yong Dae played against Lin Dan and Lee Chong. Srikanth and his partner won 9-8. There was also a triples match played at the end. It was Sindhu, Srikanth and Hidayat on one side and HS Prannoy, Yong Dae and Nehwal at the other end.
