Clinical knocks from Shubham Mestry (97) and Alsaad Shaikh (70 retired out) coupled with an excellent bowling show by Aman Manihar (3-2) and Farhan Shaikh (3-5) helped defending champions Rizvi Springfield (Bandra) win their opening U-16 Harris Shield knockout round encounter by a resounding 175 runs against Shardashram Vidyamandir English School (Dadar) at PJ Hindu Gymkhana yesterday.

Rizvi posted 250-7 in their 45 overs, courtesy Shubham and Alsaad. For Shardashram, off-spinner Rohan Petkar was the pick of the bowlers, ending the day with figures of 2-76.


The Dadar unit crumbled under pressure while chasing. Sai Chavan top-scored with 20. They were bowled out for 75 in 21.2 overs.

VN Sule bt Antonio D'Silva IES VN Sule Guruji English (Dadar) beat Dr Antonio D'Silva High School (Dadar) by 154 runs, thanks to Vedprakash Jaiswal's century and skipper Aayush Zimare's all-round show at Azad Maidan yesterday. Electing to bat, opener Vedprakash (104) and Aayush (44) stitched a 130-run partnership for the second wicket. VN Sule scored 242-8 in 45 overs. Off-spinners Sahil Sawant (4-82) and Raj Kautankar (4-39) were the pick of the bowlers. Chasing 243, Dr Antonio D'Silva were bowled out for 88. Yadnesh Jadhav (27*) top scored for his side. Left-arm spinner Aayush took five for 16. 

Sandeep smashes 206
Meanwhile, in another match, skipper Sandeep Palav hammered 206 as Fatima High school (Vidya Vihar) beat Sacred Heart High School (Worli) by 275 runs. Sandeep was involved in a 294-run stand with Rupesh Gupta (115*) as Fatima posted 365-2. In reply, Sacred Heart were bowled out for 90. Pacer Shaun Gomes took seven wickets for Fatima.
