Rogue cop punished for cheating colleagues

A policeman, who charged money from new police recruits for caps, belts and whistles has been penalised by his department.

Policeman Pandharinath Nathu Kumawat who is attached to the Local Arms division of the Mumbai police has been told that he will receive no salary increments for three years.u00a0


According to a police source, the accused constable reportedly told 30 rookie cops that he would provide them with the accessories, but charged each one of them Rs 300 for the merchandise.


After the new recruits realised that they had been cheated, they lodged an oral complaint with their superiors. Following a departmental enquiry, it was found that Kumawat had swindled his colleagues, and was handed down the punishment last week.
