Will become first RTO in state to implement Rs 40 lakh STALL system developed by National Informatics Centre
In order to prevent incidences of mass copying by applicants appearing for the online test to securing learning licence at its examination hall, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) would soon be adopting the hi-tech STALL system. Approved by the state, the new system is worth Rs 40 lakh.
Once implemented, the system would generate a different set of questions for each of the applicants. In addition, the exam will be conducted in nine different languages.

Developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC), STALL would be implemented from January 1. Under this system, an applicant can fill the admission form and get the hall ticket online. Applicants can also select date of examination according to their convenience. To secure the licence, an applicant will have to give at least 12 correct answers out of 20 objective questions.
“We observed regular incidents of mass coping during examinations. To install CCTV system in the examination hall would be complicated. Also, the maintenance cost will be high. So we wanted a permanent solution to improve the learning license examination system. Also, there are several problems in the current system, including technical glitches. In the new system, wires and other equipment will be highly advanced,” Regional Transport Officer Arun Yeola said.
“Pune RTO is the first in the state to implement such a hi-tech system. Though the NIC has already implemented the system in Hyderabad, the system to be installed here will be different. We have suggested several modifications. We demanded touch screen monitors so that applicants can access the options directly on the screen,” Yeola said. u00a0Presently, applicants are required to pay an exam fee at the RTO office counter. But the new system would be equipped with an online payment option.u00a0
“There is online payment facility on the Government Receipt and Accounting System (GRAS). But it takes three days to get the receipt as transactions go through the RBI. The fee is just Rs 30, and it is inconvenient to wait for three days. So in the STALL system, we demanded to add a facility that can generate the receipt in just a day. NIC told us all the modifications will be step by step, on trial-and-error basis, after the implementation,” Yeola said.u00a0
