In his films, Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has portrayed many characters who fight for their dreams despite being poor, but his 15-year-old namesake is living the script in reality. The Rizvi Springfield off-spinner was the star yesterday as his five-wicket haul helped bowl out IES New English (Bandra) for 96 on Day One of the Harris Shield Elite Group third round match at Cross Maidan.

But as his teammates headed home after the game, Salman -- the son of a Cross Maidan groundsman, stayed back as he was already home. Salman lives in a tent two pitches away from where the match was played, as his father Idris Mohd cannot afford a house in the city.

Vidya Paradkar, who has coached Salman for five years, believes his ward has the potential to make a name for himself in the game. "He (Salman) has worked really hard and that has shown in his consistent performances.

He is a future prospect. Mumbai Cricket Association should nurture him. He has the talent to play cricket at a higher level," said Paradkar, who along with Rizvi coach Raju Pathak played an important role in getting the Salman back to Mumbai three years back after his father sent him back to his hometown (Azamgarh) due to financial reasons.

Meanwhile, Idris hopes for divine intervention in his son's life: "Salman has seen a lot at such a young age. Allah dekh lega, uske naseeb mein jo hoga use milega (He will get what's in his fate)," said Idris, who took a break from cutting grass and watering the outfield to talk to MiD DAY yesterday.

Salman is a huge fan of his namesake superstar. "I'm a huge Salman Khan fan. I save every rupee to watch his movies. Recently, I spent all my savings to watch the first show of Dabaang. I hope that I get to meet him someday."
