Jodhpur: A sarpanch and his cousin were today booked for allegedly raping a minor girl of his village and abetting suicide of the victim's father, police said.

According to police, 25-year-old sarpanch of village Doli in the district, Kishnaram Meghwal and his cousin Lalaram Meghwal were booked after villagers gathered outside the hospital when the news of suicide by victim's father spread.

They later assembled at Luni policed station and allowed the body being taken for last rites only after the cases were registered, they said.

"We have registered two separate cases in the matter, one for abatement of suicide in Luni police station and another of raping a minor girl in Jhanwar police station," said ACP (Boranada) Seema Hingonia.

She said police have also launched search operation for the sarpanch and the accomplice, who have been absconding since the incident of suicide.

"We have formed separate police teams and sent them in search of the two accused," she added.

Kishnaram and his cousin had been raping the minor girl for past 4-5 months.

"When she became pregnant, they allegedly forced her for abortion and also started threatening her parents of dire consequences, if they approached the police," Malaram, the victim's uncle, alleged.

"When he could not bear with the Kishnaram's threats, he took the extreme step by jumping in front of a moving train near Luni last night," he said.

Police has registered against the accused under various section of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) act.
