This was cable operator's plea to our reporter on Monday; he was killed yesterday

"Save me, please!" he said. Those were cable operator Suresh Waghmare's last words as we parted on Monday. Waghmare was murdered yesterday, two days after we met.

He had wanted to meet me to tell me how all his efforts at filing a complaint at the Sahakarnagar police station against business rivals out to get him had been in vain.

Waghmare, owner of Jai Tulja Bhavani Network, had tried to file an FIR on April 20, claiming he had been abducted by rival cable operators who wanted to take over his business. No complaint was registered by the police.u00a0 About 12.15 pm yesterday, Waghmare was attacked by five members of the rival gang and hacked to death.

DCP Rajeshkumar Mor said, "Waghmare was attacked by Santosh Rashinkar, Rajesh Raman, Aglesh Raman, Datta Kamble and Sanja Kamble, who came on two bikes. They attacked him with sharp weapons."

When Waghmare met me, he had said the Sahakarnagar police had not registered a formal complaint in spite of his pleading with them. He suspected a previous attack had been masterminded by Datta Kamble.u00a0

Waghmare told me that Datta and Sanja Kamble had threatened him and told him to hand over his client database and turn over his business to them.

3 arrested
THE Sahakarnagar police arrested three accused in the case last night. They were Rajesh Raman (24), Santosh Rashinkar (31) and Roopesh Kisan Khopde (18).
He said they had also forcibly taken his signatures on a chequebook and on stamp papers and withdrawn money from his account. He told me Rashinkar, Rajesh and Aglesh Raman had kept him confined inside a garage for months.

Waghmare's brother Navnath said Waghmare received a call yesterday from someone who asked him to step out of his home.

"When he had gone just 200 feet from the door, the five attacked him and killed him," said Navnath.
