A teenage girl was allegedly raped, murdered and her body was thrown into a canal in Khanna city of Punjab, police said today.

A case of rape and murder was lodged yesterday, they said.
The class 12 student's body was recovered from the canal on August 4, they said, adding, the case was registered after her postmortem report confirmed that she was sexually assaulted before being killed.
The victim had gone to school about ten days before her body was recovered and when she did not return home, her family filed a missing persons report.
A team of cops visited the deceased's school yesterday and checked her attendance record and made inquiries about her.u00a0
