An 11-year-old girl, Sonam Chaudhari, allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling at her residence in Chikhali on Monday.
The police said that the girl might have taken the extreme step following a scolding by her father for watching too much television. “On Monday afternoon, the girl’s father, Rajkumar Chaudhari, who has a scrap business in Chikhali, scolded her for watching TV for a long time and not concentrating on studies,” a police officer from the Dehu Road police station said.u00a0
On Monday night, when her father came back home, he saw Sonam hanging from the ceiling. u00a0Sonam’s mother and elder sister had gone to their hometown in Uttar Pradesh to attend a religious ceremony and the deceased and her father were the only one in the family who had stayed back in the city.
