It was only a matter of time before warring politicos sullied the social network. A Sena activist from south Mumbai has filed a written complaint against a well-known Congress member from Allahabad for posting tweets laden with expletives and misogynistic remarks. He claims that he too has been a victim of trolling from the politician.

In his defence, the Congress member has justified his remarks, saying it was the only available method of retaliation at his disposal. Sena activist Ramesh Solanki’s Twitter handle is @rajput_ramesh. Two months ago, when Solanki was in Gujarat, he learnt that Congressman Amaresh Misra, whose Twitter handle is @amareshmisra, was using extremely abusive language against politicians and women. Solanki said, “I saw it, it was horrible. He threatened some woman that he will rape her. The language that he uses is unmentionable. I demand that all his online activities be stopped.”

In a complaint filed against Misra at the cyber crime department of the Mumbai Police in BKC, Solanki said, “For the last few months @amareshmisra is harassing some of our sisters and friends by using foul and filthy language and even threatening to kill them. He has even targeted Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, threatening to kill him. He has also been constantly abusing the RSS party and the late Balasaheb Thackeray.

We will not tolerate this and demand immediate action against him.” Solanki has also lodged a complaint at LT Marg police station. Speaking to MiD DAY on the phone, Mishra said, “I was told by one of my female party workers in Mumbai that many Opposition parties from BJP, RSS and others use filthy language against Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and several other big names in the Congress. We had no other option but to give these people an answer in their own style. I joined Twitter in February this year, I wasn’t even aware of it properly, but eventually got a hang of it.

Defending his actions, he added, “I never target the common man. Solanki tweeted extremely abusive statements against Manmohan Singh. What do you expect us to do then? We only target these guys.” A cyber expert said that the Twitter war started when Modi started his NAMO campaign on the website. Later, BJP loyalists started referring to Rahul Gandhi as pappu. In retaliation, Modi was given the epithet feku. ACP Bapu Katak Dound from LT Marg police station said, “The case did come to us, but since it deals with the web, it will be investigated by the cyber crime cell.” u00a0
