Mumbai: Krantivir Sethi of Haryana and Vikas Chauhan of Uttar Pradesh, both worked hard to win their respective boys under-19 singles first round qualifying matches in the 3rd Gautam Thakkar Memorial All India Junior Badminton Tournament here yesterday.
Krantivir fought back after dropping the opening game to overcome a spirited Nithin D. from Andhra Pradesh winning at 8-15, 15-11, 15-11. Vikas started off well by comfortably winning the first game against Rohit K. of Karnataka.
But he lost focus in the second which he lost before coming back to win the third to record a 15-10, 11-15, 15-14 victory.

Meanwhile, in a boy's under-17 singles match, Maharashtra's Jaidev Menon also had a fight on hand before he managed to put it across Pramesh Patidar of Madhya Pradesh pulling through in three close games at 15-14, 14-15, 15-14.
