Late lyricist Shailendra's kin want to be compensated for use of track

The family of late lyricist Shaily Shailendra are miffed with the Sippys producers of Nikhil Advani's Chandni Chowk To China as well as with composer Bappi Lahiri.

Shaily's chartbuster Bambai Se Aaya Mera Dost (from 1977 film Aap Ki Khatir) was included in the Akshay Kumar-Deepika starrer without their permission. Also, no royalty has been given.

Says a source, "The family were taken unawares when they heard from the media that Bappi Lahiri had rendered the popular track again by replacing Bambai with India. They had no clue about it. When the music was out, they began getting calls about the track."

Says Shaily's daughter, Priyanka, a budding singer-writer, "We had no clue about CC2C having the song. We were surprised to note that no one had bothered to even inform us or take permission."

She further claims that they did try to get in touch with the Sippys but were told to contact music company, Saregama India.

Adds Priyanka, "My sister called up Ramesh Sippy but he told her to call up Saregama. So far we have not got any response from either of them."

Priyanka, a student of MMK College, Bandra, feels that her late father should get his due. "He gave Bappi Lahiri such a huge hit. The least that they can do is to give us the royalty and proper credit."

The family wants Shaily to be given his due. "The least the makers and Saregama can do is reply to our calls."
Says Bappi's son Bappa who helped rearrange the track.

"Shaily's name has been credited in the inlay card. No composer or lyricist has individual rights. Once the song is recorded and you get paid, it goes to the music company.

T-Series took the song from Saregama and it was given acknowledgement."
