Based on the theme of its refurbished Sculpture Gallery, various art forms will take centrestage as part of a series of workshops for children at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya
If you want your kid to learn something different and interesting, then move over from banal summer activities and get your child enrolled in a series of special workshops on the art and science of sculpting. Organised by the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya (CSMVS), the hands-on workshops will be related to the collection of the ancient sculptures in the Gallery.

The programme includes various workshops on sculpting, as well as storytelling through dance and puppet-making. Registration for the workshops have begun and each workshop has only 30 seats. Fees for each workshop (except storytelling) is '300. Registration is required for all the workshops. Storytelling is open to all and free of charge.

Art on the Rocks> Talk to expert sculptors to understand the nature of stones and the materials used for sculptures. You can also make one of your own.

AGE 10 to 14 years
Puppet Puranas> Learn how to make puppets from scrap and weave stories from the Puranas (mythology). Participants need to bring their own materials.

AGE 8 to 14 years
The Secrets Of Saurapitha> Get to know about the 12th century Saurapitha (solar dial). An expert will help you create your own astronomical device. Participants must bring an empty shoebox and a torch with them.

AGE 8 to 12 years
Katha-Kathan> Listen to a storyteller weave enchanting reams of stories from the Purana-kathas.

AGE Open to all
Vahana — the vehicle of gods> Learn all about animals who are the vahanas of gods and why the gods selected them to be their vehicles. Participants must bring basic stationary.

AGE 6 to 10 years
Mudras — language of the hands> Mudras (gestures) are very important in our ancient traditions of sculpture as they help tell stories. With the help of a teacher, pick up a few mudras in this workshop to weave animated stories.
