Former Indian cricket board secretary Jaywant Lele reckons N Srinivasan's predecessor, Shashank Manohar has the best credentials to take over as president if Srinivasan is asked to step down by members of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for his team Chennai Super Kings' alleged connection to the spot fixing scandal. But the Nagpur-based Mr Clean won't take it up.

Shashank Manohar won't come back to BCCI: Lele

“Manohar is one of the best (to head the BCCI for the time being), but he won’t agree. He is not interested in cricket (administration) any more. He told me this. He has enjoyed the highest post in the BCCI. Before that, he was president of Vidarbha Cricket Association for several years.

“Shashank will not come back. He is not even the Vidarbha Cricket Association president now. He has resigned and is just a member. The BCCI can appoint anyone from the five vice-presidents (Arun Jaitley, Shivlal Yadav, Chitrak Mitra, Niranjan Shah and Sudhir Dabir) for the time being,” said Lele from Baroda on Saturday.

Srinivasan should have quit
Lele felt Srinivasan should have stepped down given the current scenario, but may take a call soon.u00a0“He is taking his time. I feel he might step down after the final because his team is playing on Sunday and he doesn’t want to tarnish the image of the IPL,” said Lele.

Having been secretary for a number of years, what would he have done if he were in current secretary Sanjay Jagdale’s shoes? “I would have immediately called for an emergency meeting of Board members and take their views on whether the BCCI president should continue. If they felt he shouldn’t, then I’d say, ‘thank you, Mr President’. If they felt he should continue, it would be fine,” said Lele.u00a0
