'She thinks I'm cheating on her, but I'm actually not'
Introducing Dr Love, who solves your relationship riddles in a confusing digital age
My girlfriend found me chatting with someone else a few weeks ago, and thinks I am cheating on her. This is just a friend I know casually because we used to go to the same coaching class a few years ago, but my girlfriend had never heard of her before and suspects something. This is irrational because it's not as if I speak to this girl or have even bothered calling her after our last meeting, but my girlfriend still makes me feel guilty about it. She doesn't even come right out and accuse me of something, which I find very annoying because it means we are just drifting apart for no reason at all. How do I stop this? I have no intention of cheating on her at all, and have no feelings whatsoever towards this other person, who isn't even someone I am close to.
This shouldn't happen if you and your girlfriend have an open, honest and transparent relationship. If she doesn't trust you and has a problem with something so insignificant, it actually points to the fact that you don't have healthy lines of communication. The only thing you can do is be honest, tell her how her behaviour is upsetting you, explain why she has no reason to be doubtful of your actions and help her understand that she means a lot to you. If she doesn't accept any of your arguments, ask her why she thinks you're not being honest with her and try addressing that. Neither if you should assume something about the other without coming right out and saying something.
How can I get my parents to like my boyfriend more? They think he is not right for me, but I haven't figured that out for myself yet and would rather give him the benefit of the doubt.
I suggest you try and figure it out for yourself first before trying to convince your parents, because you won't be convincing enough if you have doubts about him yourself.
