Rajkumar Chauhan stripped of urban development department

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Sunday stripped controversial minister Rajkumar Chauhan of the urban development department in a sudden cabinet reshuffle. Chauhan has been under attack for alleged irregularities in distribution of provisional regularisation certificates to unauthorised colonies in 2008. u00a0

Health and family welfare minister AK Walia, who used to hold the department before it was given to Chauhan, has taken over the reins. And in a straight swap, the department of employment, which was with Walia, has been given to Chauhan, top Delhi government sources said. u00a0Chauhan continues to be in charge of the PWD and SC and ST departments.u00a0

In her second such reshuffle in last eight months, Dikshit has given additional charge of parliamentary affairs and law departments to Ramakant Goswami, who is minister of industries, labour and elections. Dikshit had effected a major reshuffle of her Cabinet in February when then social welfare minister Mangat Ram Singhal was axed while 67-year-old Goswami, a three-time MLA, was inducted into the council of ministers.u00a0

Walia, who was urban development minister then, was striped of the portfolio and it was given to Chauhan. Yesterday's reshuffle came amidst mounting attack on Dikshit's government on alleged irregularities in distribution of provisional regularisation certificates to unauthorised colonies.u00a0
