Shibani Kashyap tackles the ill-effects of being addicted to social media with her single

The power of music lies in its ability to go beyond entertaining us, and change the way we look at things. One to use her art to make a social commentary, Shibani Kashyap is coming up with a single, titled Wanna Be Free, which aims at encouraging people to free themselves from the shackles of social media. Composed and sung by Kashyap, the track has been penned by Rashmi Virag and will release on January 30. "I believe in making music that has a purpose," says the pop artiste, whose last song, Zindagi, spoke about how terrorism is ruling the world. "Before that, I recorded a song called Don't Drink And Drive. Sometimes, music can be a powerful tool to bring about a change in society."

Kashyap says that one needs to address how the youth has become slave to social media and its all-pervading, all-consuming nature. "Nowadays, people meet with accidents and guests care more about clicking selfies at weddings rather than focusing on the couple because of their addiction to gadgets. With this song, I wish to reach out to those who are addicted to social media. Digital medium is an important platform, but it should be used sensibly."
