Shiva enters quarter-finals, Suranjoy bows out
Indian boxers suffered a major set-back after the vastly talented Suranjoy Singh (52kg) lost his pre-quarterfinal bout 10-30 to old nemesis Nyambayar Tugstsogt of Mongolia in the Asian Olympic Qualifying event here on Saturday.
Suranjoy’s dreams to represent India in the 2012 London Games are all but over as Nyambayar once again proved to be a difficult adversary for the Indian to beat. The Mongolian boxer now has a three-nil record against Suranjoy.
However, 2010 Youth Olympic Games silver medallist Shiva Thapa (56kg) kept alive his Olympics dreams.
He advanced to the quarters with a 14-7 victory over Afghan Mohmmad Khaiber Nooristani.
