The 35-year-old star, who was adopted by her stepfather Greg Dawson when she was one-year-old, has been open about her adoption plan for years and now she has gone a step ahead despite being single, reported a leading US newspaper.
The actress, who dated 'Slumdog Millionaire' director Danny Boyle, had earlier said in interviews that she is open to adoption.
"The idea has stayed in the back of my head but lately, I've been thinking about it more. My mother and grandmother are extra-ordinary women, and they are getting older. It struck me recently that one day I might be sitting around with my children, going, 'Your grandma was an amazing woman; I really wish you could've known her'... Whatever time I have, I want it," said Dawson.
