Now, she is battling it out with Emirates, who she claims lost one of her travel cases that contained goods worth R3 lakh and easy resolution does not seem on the horizon. Now, after a protracted back and forth, she has been asked to produce proof of the items that she claims were lost in her bag, including high-end luxury clothes, shoes, bags and belts.

The incident dates back to April 27 when the couple landed in Mumbai via Dubai on an Emirates flight from Turkey. On arrival, they could not locate their three check-in bags. "A ground staff with our names scribbled on a placard approached us. Though she couldn’t communicate in either Hindi or English, she told us that due to an internal error, our bags were not loaded on the aircraft. We waited at the terminal for three hours, and were lucky to get two back that day. We were further assured delivery of the pending bag within 24 hours." Unfortunately, it was the one that contained all their shopping from their travels.

The duo then contacted the airline over telephone and mails and was promised cooperation. However, after constant back and forth, Kakkar claims, "One day, a representative from the airline, without intimation, directly came down to our residence and asked us to collect the bag from our watchman, but we insisted that he be there when we check our things. As expected, that bag that we received was tampered with and items from it were missing."

Following this, the singer hired a lawyer and took up the issue again. Now, three days ago, Emirates sent Kakkar an email offering her a compensation of Rs 41,599 against items that Kakkar values at Rs 3.5lakh, so she rejected it. It was then that the airline asked her to produce proof of loss. mid-day is in possession of the email exchange.

According to Kakkar, "It’s not only the money, but the mental harassment that the airline has put us through. Add to that, when we take up the issue with them, we have to deal with an auto-generated reply that things would be solved, but still no resolution."

The other side
When mid-day contacted Emirates, the airline said that it would not comment at the moment and would look into the issue before sending its reply to the complaint.
