The accused were identified as Babu Shaikh (48), his wife Suzan Shaikh (45), daughter Nazma (23), son Izaz (20) and their two aides Sanjay Chhabria (30) and Abrar Shaikh (27), they said. According to police, the accused published a number of friendship club advertisements in English newspapers stating that those who become members of the club would get to meet high profile women with whom they can be "very friendly, fulfill their sexual favours as well as earn Rs five lakh."
"The ads stated that the membership fee is anything between Rs 2,200 to Rs 15,000 depending upon the schemes. When people called them, they would make them members after taking money. By giving some or the other reasons, they would seek more money from them.
No one would not be allowed to meet any female," N More, Senior Inspector at Cyber police station told PTI. One of the victims had approached the police complaining about the accused recently, More said, adding that a probe was initiated and the modus operandi was uncovered after which all the six were arrested.
"The accused were produced before a local court which remanded them in police custody till December 15," he added. The money received from the victims was deposited in Sanjay and Abrar's bank accounts, More said adding that, "there was at least Rs two lakh in both the accounts." The complainant in the case had paid Rs 2,200 but there may be many more victims who may have been cheated by these accused, he said.
