Suspecting victim was in a relationship with one of his female relatives, Riyaz Sheikh and five others attacked Yuvraj Jadhav with sharp weapons, sticks; three arrested, juvenile detained

Six people allegedly killed a 26-year-old man with sharp weapons in the wee hours yesterday in Thergaon. Officials of the Hinjewadi police station said Yuvraj Jadhav was killed by the accused as they suspected him of having an affair with one of their female relatives.

Jadhav’s friend Ritesh Jedhe (22), who was injured in the attack, is being treated at a local hospital.

Police officials arrested three of the accused — Mubarak Shaikh, Riyaz Shaikh and Mustafa (last name not known) — and detained a juvenile for their alleged involvement in Jadhav’s murder.

“Around 1.30 am on Monday, Yuvraj and Ritesh had gone to meet their friend Somnath Topne near an open ground in Thergaon. While the three were busy conversing, Riyaz, his father-in-law Mubarak, and four others came there and took objection to Jadhav’s arrival in the area, and picked up a fight with him,” DCP (Zone III) Shahaji Umap said.

Umap said Riyaz suspected Jadhav of having an affair with one of his relatives and picked up a fight with Jadhav suspecting that he had purposely
visited the area to meet the relative.

“During the dispute, Riyaz, Mubarak and the other four brandished sharp weapons and attacked Yuvraj. When Ritesh intervened, he too was attacked with sticks,” Umap said.

All six accused fled the spot after attacking Jadhav. It was Topne, who along with a few locals, rushed Jadhav and Jedhe to the YCM Hospital. Jadhav was declared dead on arrival.

“Based on Ritesh’s complaint, we arrested Riyaz, Mubarak and Mustafa and detained a juvenile from Thergaon,” Umap said.
