Sixth consecutive Rd 1 loss for Devvarman

Indian tennis player Somdev Devvarman lost in straight sets in the first round of the men’s singles event here at the Erste Bank Open.

Devvarman, who is trying to make a comeback from a shoulder injury, went down to Ernests Gulbis of Latvia 6-7(6), 3-6 in one hour and 43 minutes yesterday.

This was the sixth consecutive first round loss for the 27-year-old who is ranked 579 in the world. He has lost all singles matches since making a comeback at the London Olympics.
