It's not easy to slot Ishitta Arun into one category and the lady is well aware of that. She's been a singer, has acted and hosted shows, and now is seriously into designing and theatre.

Sky's the limit for Ishitta Arun

u00a0“I sometimes wish I was not talented, but hey! Either I can wish that or make use of these 20 things and make a uniquely new concoction that’s uniquely mine,” she says candidly. Ishitta spoke to CS about theatre and more:

Who: Ishitta Arun
What: On theatre and more
Where: At her residence in Bandra

Act one
Theatre has been very organic for me, just like most things in my life. The part I’m playing in Bombay Talkies was played by someone else in the first two shows. Then she left and I became a part of it. It’s not something I took a step towards consciously, but yes, now that’s it has happened, the stress is now on good work and to grow. Because I’ve made this effort, avenues are opening up and the concentration is there. Also, since more people are getting to know that I’m doing theatre, I’m getting more offers for the same.

Hard to slot
It’s not something one chooses, it’s a design of fate. It’s another challenge to stick to one job and I have high regards for such people. Having said that you make the most of what nature gives you. You can’t fight it — you can either hone it or ignore it. I just played with what nature gave me. Either I can berate myself for not knowing what to do for the rest of my life or I can understand that I’m severly gifted and have the great good fortune of being born into that atmosphere that recognises those gifts, and gives me the freedom of honing those gifts and talents. If that means it translates into theatre at this point of time, it’s great.

Family comes first
I’m very grateful to my husband and my parents as it’s their relentless support that has allowed me the luxury of now worrying where my next meal is coming from. Mumbai is a cut-throat place and this luxury is something I cherish and don’t take for granted. There are people who do this to make ends meet and I have tremendous respect for them. I’m not even half as much there. I’m very well aware how I’m doing this. If it was not for my family, I would be rethinking my responsibilities.

Hubby tales
My hubby and I have just started working together. I designed his studio recently. For a husband and wife to work together, they have to be really open to complete acceptance. I know him in the role of my husband and now, I’m getting to know him as a professional. I worked with him as a child actor in Shyam Benegal’s Trikaal. He was 11 and I was 6 and I proposed to him then! (laughs)u00a0u00a0
